It happens more often than you think. Handicaps change after entry. Players don't meet minimum score requirements. Rules vary between competitions. Nobody realises until it's too late.
By the time it's picked up, the result is gone. The team is gutted. And the captain is left wondering how it slipped through.
It happened to us — a player's handicap moved by 0.4 in the five days before the match. We put down the wrong figure. In another comp, a player hadn't accumulated the 20 rounds needed for a fully established WHS handicap. Gone. When we looked into it, clubs across the UK had the same story.
